Update on the 2023 Volunteer Season

Update on the 2023 Volunteer Season

Horseshoe crabs will soon be climbing on the shores and we know you are as ready as we are to get out and help them AND help us make this another great year for reTURN the Favor.

All volunteers interested in conducting walks on their own for the program must attend a reTURN the Favor training, even if you have volunteered before. Check the training options below for returning and new volunteers. After completing your training, we will email you a form to complete so we can provide materials and the sign up schedule for walks. You can always sign up to join a public walk without training. We get it done by working together through this program and we are ready to get started!

We will add more updates and trainings to this page as needed, so be sure to check back throughout the season.

Are you a returning volunteer who has previously attended a RTF training, conducted RTF walks, and submitted RTF data? Thank you! These options are for you:

  • Returning Volunteer training (virtual) will be Wednesday April 19 6:00 – 7:30 PM.
  • We’ve added a Returning Volunteer Self-directed Training option for volunteers who have participated in at least two years of reTURN the Favor in the last five years.
    • The deadline to register for Self-directed Training is Friday April 14.
    • The link for the youtube video will be emailed to you between April 3 – 15.  Once you have the link you can complete the Self-directed Training on your own schedule and before April 17. It should take less than an hour to complete.
    • Sign up here
  • Registered walks for returning volunteers can begin May 1, and after materials are in hand.

Are you a new volunteer and this will be your first season leading RTF walks? Welcome! These options are for you:

  • New Volunteer training (virtual) will be Saturday April 29 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
  • Registered walks for new volunteers can begin May 15, and after materials are in hand. The season runs through July 15, so there is plenty of time for everyone to get involved.

Are you interested in helping RTF but not leading your own walks? Fantastic! No training is needed if you want to join a walk led by a trained volunteer or one of our partner organizations. Check here for updated public walks to join.

*After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Trainings are capped at 75.
